Dr. Sherzai's Bio
Dr. Sherzai is currently the director of memory and Aging center at Loma Linda University, director of research in Loma Linda Neurology department, and the county commissioner for healthy aging for the county of San Bernardino.
He completed his medical school in E. Virginia medical school (1991-1995) and his internship and residency at Georgetown University (1996-2000).
He went on to a fellowship in Experimental Therapeutics and Neurodegenerative diseases at National Institutes of Health (2000-2002), where he received a scholarship for a masters in Clinical research from Duke University. In 2002 he was asked by the world bank to help lead their health delivery project in a newly liberated Afghanistan. While there he became the Deputy Minister of Health, and focused on empowering women through health care delivery models. In 2006 he started a second fellowship in Dementia and Geriatrics at UCSD, which is one of the top programs in the field. He finished his masters in clinical research at UCSD.
In 2008 he decided to join the faculty of Loma Linda University in order to establish a new model to aging. Here, in Loma Linda University, he is worked on his DrPh in Epidemiology of Aging, a PhD in Policy and Leadership in Aging, and is participating in the Harvard Executive Leadership program. It is here that he is studying brain aging amongst the Adventist health study population (one of the oldest and largest cohort studies in the world). In 2012 he established the first county wide healthy aging conference, which focused on community empowerment. In March of the same year he was asked to lead as the county commissioner of healthy aging, and has since brought the county leadership, faith based leaders, and other community partners together to work towards this new model of healthy aging. Dr. Sherzai is working to establish a first ever Healthy Aging Institute that connects comprehensive clinical care, research, and the community to bring a revolution in Healthy Aging.
